We started our day thinking of going to the Getty Villa, the home on John Paul Getty, but it is closed on Tuesdays....so we went to the Getty Museum instead. The museum is the home to all of his art. Getty made his money in oil, and was the richest man in the world for much of his adult life. He died in the 70s, but his foundation lived on. They bought the land for the Getty Museum. It took 10 years to finish everything. The museum opened in 1997. It is stunning, and free!

They have these umbrellas you can use for sunny days (every day is sunny).

This is inside the main entrance.

It has almost as much display area as The Art Institute in Chicago, but all the outdoor areas make it amazing.

We looked at a lot of decorative arts from the 1700s.

My favorites were the clocks and the decorative pieces atop the clocks.

There are a lot of terrific views of the LA area.

Century City and the UCLA campus are the buildings in the foreground. Los Angeles is on the horizon. I asked, and yes, that is smog. It is only clear after it rains.

We had peanut butter and jelly for lunch.

After lunch, we looked at the Impressionist paintings of Monet and Van Gogh.

Here is the Van Gogh piece called "Irises" - when it was sold in 1987, the $50M+ price was the highest ever paid for a work of art.

Van Gogh really puts the paint on thick

After 4 hours, we headed out.

We left right at 5PM, and it only took about an hour to get to our AirBnB in Thousand Oaks.

I went to Ralph's to get groceries.

almost as good as Woodman's, but certainly not in the frozen pizza department

Our go-to for vacation meals is basil pesto pasta. Or course I brought some ingredients from Woodman's, so all I needed to buy were green beans and potatoes.

The house we are staying at is for sale, if anyone is interested.
